Mark Kermode Reviewing Bad Films Is Hilarious [Stuff to Watch]

Critics – you love them, you hate them, and most importantly you love to hate them. Very occasionally you’ll find the odd critic who speaks your language and makes you laugh, even when you don’t necessarily agree with what they’re saying. Mark Kermode is one such BBC film critic, broadcaster and radio personality whose legendary impersonation of hard-man British actor Danny Dyer probably gets more YouTube views than Danny Dyer himself. The Danny Dyer Reviews Danny Dyer is a British actor and TV personality most recently known for disheartening British non-medy Run For Your Wife and the Christmas 2013 special of...

YouTube Adjusts Its Interface, Adopts A Mobile Look And Better Playlists

youtube-update

Following enhancements to its music capabilities last week, YouTube has begun rolling out a redesigned user interface for its Web version that gives it a more mobile-friendly look and puts a heavier emphasis on playlists. The new look draws heavily from Google’s card-centric design philosophy seen across many of its apps. The homepage is now centered over a grey background with two tabs lining the top: What to Watch and My Subscriptions. The centered look should make YouTube display better on screens of any size, and is more akin to what users expect from YouTube’s mobile apps. The sidebar along...

youtube-download

YouTube isn’t known for making discovery of songs from one particular artist or band easy. Now, that changes with a small but important addition when you type in a search – a long list of the top tracks and albums all linking to the videos YouTube has on their site. Click on any of the tracks, albums, or the large thumbnail on the top and you immediately jump into a custom playlist. Then lean back and listen to your favorite artist without any further intervention. The new playlist feature makes it a much more organized YouTube. A small selection of...

watching-youtube

More teens listen to music through YouTube than any other source, a Nielsen study found. So it only makes sense that there should be ways to make it easier to listen to YouTube through your browser. And that’s what Streamus does for Google Chrome. Chrome already has YouTube Options to make your overall YouTube experience better, but Streamus is solely about the music. It has one mission: a mini music player based on YouTube, sitting pretty in your Chrome toolbar. facebook-look-back-camera

Facebook is 10, and to celebrate its birthday it invited everyone to ‘Look Back‘ at their time on the social networking site. The automagically created video for each person pulled together their first moments, their most-liked updates, and a selection of photos. Which made the Facebook ‘Look Back’ videos perfect for parodying. As usual, the Internet delivered. Facebook Look Back: Privacy Facebook has evolved considerably through its first decade of existence. As it has grown, changed, and introduced new features such as the Timeline, the site’s privacy settings have been updated, sometimes very quietly. This ‘Look Back’ parody plays on...

Inspirational

“Annoying” is the word most commonly associated with ads. But as you might have discovered through the decades of telly-watching, advertisements aren’t the problem. Bad advertisements are. The idea behind this post came from Microsoft’s ad  as it prepares to hit the Superbowl even as it hits the headlines for being empowering. By the time you read this post, you might have seen the ad play out on screens. It may or may not...

5bycom

A concierge’s job is to take care of every whim, fancy, and mood. When it comes to online entertainment, there are digital Man Fridays that cover every instant demand you can think of. It’s a concept that’s more familiar to radio stations and online services that let us play music according to mood. Then, we do tend to do evening sitdowns and watch movies with matching moods too. Why should casual video-surfing be any different? 5By.com matches that need with a new free video curation web application – a “video concierge” that trawls the Web for the best videos and...

Google Launches “Video Quality Report” To Benchmark ISPs With YouTube HD Streaming

youtube-video-quality

There are speed tests to compare bandwidths from ISP services, and then there’s the newly launched “Video Quality Report” from Google which subscribers and ISP providers can use to benchmark video streaming performance. It is only available in Canada for now, but expect it to be rolled out to the world gradually. The Google-powered yardstick uses YouTube HD playback to measure not only the speed of video delivery but also its quality. Google has servers around the world, and it usually picks the shortest route to deliver the YouTube video to a screen. The ISPs own network capacity is one...

Mitchell is probably best known for his role as hapless office drone Mark in the popular sitcom Peep Show, and has built up a reputation among the British comedy circuit for his sharp wit and well-spoken deliveries. Initially written for the web, SoapBox experienced enough success to see a DVD release, airtime on TV and four series worth of moaning. That means you should probably watch a few, and subscribe on YouTube...
